Our School Day
Everyone in, Every Day!
Be on time, school starts at 9am!
Beat the Bell!
The Golden Hour!
These are a few of our mottos for the start of our school days. Every day of school counts-it's where children build routines, grow friendships, discover new learning and enjoy the magic of play together. We focus on working with families to ensure children are in school on time as we know that arriving late to a lesson and missing out on valuable recap of previous learning or the start of new learning can be upsetting for children and detrimental to their learning.
Our school gates open on Gunthorpe Street at 8:45am with staff standing in various places outside ready to meet and greet the children with a smile and positive word or two! Classroom teachers are stood at their doors ready to warmly greet the children as they arrive at their classroom and get themselves ready for each day.
Children are encouraged to arrive at 8.45am to be able to settle quickly and enjoy some Early Morning Learning.
Lessons for the day start promptly at 9am with every day starting with English or maths.
Daily assemblies are at 10.30am. This is followed by Breaktime.
Lunchtime is 12-1pm for all children and classes enjoy dining together in the school hall and lots of fresh air and movement in the playgound. During wet play children are supervised either in their classrooms or in one of our school halls. We employ a PE Coach to run lunch time clubs for the children twice a week too.
Storytime is at 3pm across the school every day-this is a really important time for us to reinforce the power of Read Alouds and to ensure all our children experience the magic of storytelling every day.
Our school day finishes at 3.30pm. Children are in their Legendary Line Ups in the playgound and are dismissed from here by their class teacher. If a parent/carer wishes for another names adult to collect their child on any given day they must contact the school office to set up the necessary safeguarding actions with the school.
Our school week is structured to provide a minimum of 32.5 hours of education, in line with current statutory guidance (from September 2024). This equates to 6.5 hours per day. Please note that optional before-school Breakfast Club and and after-school clubs are not included in this total.
Children in Year 6 are permitted to travel home on their own; parents/carers provide the school with the necessary consent for this arrangement to be in place.
