Equalities Objectives

At Mulberry Canon Barnett Primary, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all children, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of race, gender, age, disability, faith or socio-economic background. We believe that all children should be prepared for  life in a multicultural and diverse society and we promote positive attitudes and interaction between all people. All children are encouraged to understand, respect and value the differing cultural and religious backgrounds of the school community. Children are also encouraged to accept each other’s abilities, disabilities and special needs.

Staff members have high expectations of all children irrespective of race, gender, faith, social  background and disability. The achievement of children is monitored by race, gender and disability and we use this information to support children, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching. We will not tolerate any form of prejudice. Any incident of discrimination is openly and quickly investigated. We have clear procedures for dealing with such incidents.

At Mulberry Canon Barnett Primary, we believe that diversity is a strength, which should be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit here. Treating people equally does not necessarily involve treating them all the same and we always take account of differences of life-experience, outlook and  background-equity drives our work.  We aim to create a supportive and inclusive learning and working environment in which all individuals  are able to make best use of their skills, free from discrimination or harassment, and in which all decisions are based on merit and need.

All staff members have a duty to act in accordance with this policy and treat pupils, colleagues and  other members of the school community with dignity at all times, and not to discriminate against or  harass other members of staff, regardless of their status. We also have a separate anti-bullying policy.

Our equalities objectives reflect our commitment to fairness, inclusion, equity and diversity. We strive to eliminate discrimination and promote equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff and families. We aim to close any gaps in attainment and progress between different groups of pupils and ensure that everyone has the chance to succeed. We actively challenge stereotypes and celebrate the rich cultural backgrounds of our school community. By embedding equality into all aspects of school life, we create an environment where everyone feels respected and valued.
