Vision and Values
Mulberry Canon Barnett Primary is school providing education to children from Nursery age (free 30 hours for all 3-4 year olds from September 2025) to Year 6 in the heart of East London. Mulberry Canon Barnett Primary is a truly inclusive school where differences are valued and every child is cherished. We recognise that we are all unique, each of us are special as individuals and together we make an incredible team. At Mulberry Canon Barnett Primary School, the MCB Way defines the core values and guiding principles that shape our school community.
We are driven by our collective mission Outstanding Achievement for all- Excellence Everywhere and our expectations of respect, responsibility, and readiness underpin everything we do, creating a safe and supportive environment where every child can thrive and succeed.
We believe that every child can achieve great things. Children are at the heart of everything we do, and we are unwavering in our commitment to inclusion, equity and high expectations, so that every child feels they belong, knows they matter and is supported to succeed. Our curriculum is built on strong foundations of essential knowledge, skills and values. It is ambitious, carefully planned and inclusive, enabling all children—regardless of background, starting point or need—to develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning. High-quality teaching, appropriate challenge and targeted support ensure that all children make progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their education. Personal development runs through our curriculum. We nurture kind, confident and responsible young people who respect others, value difference and stand up for fairness and equality. We teach children to look after their wellbeing, build positive relationships and live out the fundamental British values that help us live well together. We raise aspirations and prepare children for the future by helping them believe in themselves and their potential. Through meaningful learning experiences, children develop independence, strong character and the confidence to use their voice, make positive choices and contribute to their communities and the wider world. Through the MCB Way, we aim to empower every child to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally.
Our children are proud to follow our school expectations of being Respectful, Responsible and Ready for Learning. Our children are respectful to themselves and those around them, they are responsible for themselves and they are ready to listen and learn.
Our School Motto is 'Try our best, Be kind, look after each other'.
Each class creates their own Class Commitment, their MCB Way, at the beginning of each school year that encompasses what our school motto and expectations mean to them and these are always a joy to read and see. We value living together as a community in harmony and understanding. Our school is a happy place where children are taught to be kind, confident, independent and to try their best in all they do. We value friendship and kindness, the joy of celebrating together, the comfort and support of a kind word or action and the excitement of making memories together.
And we always remind ourselves:
If you see someone without a smile... give them one of yours!
– Dolly Parton
At our school we actively promote Fundamental British Values as part of childrens’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development. These values are embedded across the curriculum and in our school life to help our children become respectful, responsible, and kind members of the community. We learn about democracy by making choices and sharing our ideas, and we understand the importance of rules to keep everyone safe and happy. We celebrate different beliefs and cultures, showing respect for everyone, no matter who they are. We encourage children to make their own choices safely and responsibly. By working together and treating each other fairly, we help make our school a place where everyone belongs, everyone matters and everyone can do their best.
At Mulberry Canon Barnett Primary we believe that the best results for children are achieved when home and school work brilliantly together, we take pride in building strong, positive and caring relationships with our families and the community and we value the crucial part that families play in this educational journey that we are part of together.
